Going to southeast asia soon, I got vaccines out the wazoo.

T his is good because it should prevent street food and other diseases from shooting out my wazoo instead.

O n the other hand, with the number of vaccines I got my understanding is that I now have super autism.

Still, at least I won’t fucking die or go bankrupt from trying to treat a disease for which a much, much cheaper prevention method exists.

Nah it’s kind of like nuclear half-lives the autism doesn’t necessarily go away from vaccines

Because I got like 4 vaccines they amplify exponentially which is why I now have super autism

I mean, come on guy, do your research

The only thing that’s going to fuck this wazoo is the extremely spicy food that I want to eat, not e.coli or malaria or whatever else fucks with wazoos

Take some Imodium just in case (Instants and regular), don’t drink tap (faucet ) water or drinks with ice where the ice has been made with tap water. Often called Delhi-belly’ here in the U.K. but you can get it from tap water in Spain just as easy as anywhere else.

Also, depending where your going, you may need to take certain medical stuff with you.

Where is it your going?

If we were discussing religion, I would gladly welcome the discussion about whether or not God is real since there is no proof either way.

I still don’t get how people connect autism to vaccines since there is zero proof, and if it actually did cause autism most of North America would be autistic, including the irritating twats who are living right now thanks to vaccines.

Yeah I’ve been told to take immodium or pepto, I was also given antibiotics in case I get the shits.

Already aware of drinking bottled water and avoiding ice.

Visiting Thailand, Vietnam, Siem Reap in Cambodia, and Singapore. I was also given malaria pills specifically for Siem Reap. It’s mostly urban visiting , the closest we get to jungle I think is Siem Reap (hence the malaria pills) and we will be on a couple of islands in Thailand as well as Ha Long Bay in Vietnam (which will be on the water anyway).

Apart from my vaccines and immodium, the doc said to bring the strongest possible bug repellent as well (Canada is limited to 30% DEET max concentration so that’s what I’ll get).

Check this out - local to me here in Portland, at my wife’s place of work.

https://www.oregonlive.com/clark-county/2019/03/rare-case-of-oregon-tetanus-required-care-of-100-doctors-nurses.html

Ridiculous that even after all that suffering and expense they went through to save the boy’s life the parents still declined to vaccinate the kid. Wonder if/how they paid those medical bills.

p.s. enjoy the trip and the street food. yeah there’s a risk but it’s such a huge part of the experience. Stick to places that look busy and full of locals. Where exactly are you going?

Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia (well, Angkor Wat) and Singapore.

Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh, Hoi An, Hanoi, Ha Long Bay

Thailand - Bangkok, and a couple of islands (I think one was Koh Samui but I forget the other)

The Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia (the last time I went to a wonder that you can build in Civilization V/VI was the Himeji Castle in Japan, and that was awesome)

Singapore for the last few days, it’s a place I’ve wanted to see for a while now because of Anthony Bourdain’s episodes there across a few different series.

Yep, Imodium Instants for a quick response followed by Imodium with muscle care such as cramps, bloating, etc...for more prolonged treatment. Avoid taking painkillers if you can, some countries don’t take too kindly to certain painkillers like Iburofen.

Check with you government departments about travel advice or look at the U.K. FCO (Foreign and Commonwealth Office) for travel information.

Food advice to repel insects.

https://www.mosquitomagnet.com/articles/mosquito-repellent-foods

God advice for repelling mosquitoes with food either dietary or like in the case of tomatoes, not just eating them but also using some of the juice from tomatoes to reduce the itching should you be bit.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

How it works: Tomatoes are one of several foods that are rich in thiamine, also known as vitamin B1. Many people suggest that a diet abundant with thiamine can be very effective at deterring mosquitoes and some other bugs, though this has faced some debate in recent years. Thiamin-rich tomatoes make you less enticing to mosquitoes and prevent them from biting.

If you still get bit, you can rub the juices from your leftover tomatoes on the affected area to stop the itching!

How to use it: With so many ways to use them, tomatoes can easily be incorporated into your daily meal routine. Try some simple favorites such as tomato soup and freshly tossed salads, or top your favorite pasta with a zesty tomato sauce - bonus points if you throw in some garlic and onions!

You could even make some bite-sized tomato and cheese cups to share with your friends at the next outdoor event.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

How it works: Not only is this juicy fruit an excellent source of vitamin C and health-boosting antioxidants, grapefruit has been linked to deterring mosquitoes and is also effective against ticks . It has been suggested that it may repel other insects such as bed bugs and head lice as well.

This is because of a compound contained in grapefruit called, nootkatone, which is used as both an insecticide and natural pesticide.

How to use it: Citrus fruits can make a great addition to your daily meal routine. Try eating half a grapefruit for breakfast before you start your day, or combine it with other citrus fruits to create a fresh fruit salad.

For an on-the-go dessert to keep you protected no matter where you are, you can whip up some grapefruit cupcakes .

Kinja'd!!!

((WARNING, if you are taking any treatment for cholesterol, such as anything containing statins such as Atorvastatin, Pitavastatin, etc... DO NOT EAT GRAPEFRUIT, grapefruit can inhibit their effectiveness and will react with other medications and may cause an overdose))

(((at the bottom of each page, make sure to click on ‘Safety & Security))) this information isn’t to scare you but to make you aware.

.

If you can spare space, take some non adherent dressings, some gauze swabs for cleaning, non alcohol wipes and some microporous tape and plasters/elastoplasts (non zinc oxide), etc...

That’ll be awesome. My brother lives in Hanoi right now but I haven’t been to Vietnam yet (or Cambodia). Thai food in Thailand is insanely amazing. And so much good food at hawker centres in Singapore. Try finding some good Malay food while you’re there - probably one of my favourite Asian cuisines.

Yeah we wanted to do a stopover in Kuala Lumpur but couldn’t fit it into the itinerary; food is probably the primary reason why I want to go to Singapore, with the fact that it seems like a cool city overall being a close 2nd.

Thanks for the thorough response! Much of this is known to me but there is some new info here.

We’re not really going to any potentially of those dangerous areas, but I suppose it could be worse; a friend of mine had gone to Thailand the last time they had a coup d’état (I think it was 2015) and was subject to curfews and stuff. Hopefully that’s not the case on this trip for my friend and I.

Yeah Singapore is a very cool melting pot. Can feel like any other big rich city in some parts, but there’s plenty of authentic food and culture to be had for sure.

If you ever venture further in to Asia towards the Indian subcontinent I’d recommend Sri Lanka. I grew up there so quite biased but you may have seen it ranked highly on all kinds of travel lists lately (believe Lonely Planet has it at #1 this year) . It’s a really diverse country in many respects with a pretty unique history that  has resulted in a really amazing diversity in delicious foods as well.

Stay aware of your surroundings and stay safe.

Local, social and political situations can happen quite fast in some areas so it’s always best to know some of the local and national events to make you aware of where to go, what to do, what not to say and how to get away.

I empathize. IIRC, there was one study years ago that suggested a connection between vaccines and autism. Then it was debunked, but don’t tell the anti-vaxxers that. I mean, noted scientist Jenny McCarthy says vaccines are bad, and she’s on the TV box!

What’s really awful is that ignorant, selfish choices about vaccines don’t just affect you and your child, they affect your surrounding community. If you want to go live unvaccinated on a private island and take your chances, I guess that’s up to you. But not in school, or a train station, or a bus, or...whatever. Nowhere you’ll come in contact with fellow humans.

Older relatives of mine lived with polio. I’m confident if you showed them the data on vaccine risk they would happily have chosen those risks versus what they went through with that disease .
